Many teams just happen together, a group of individuals in the same department, same customer, same corporate goal, same colours.
But this is not enough to make them a team, they remain individuals who occasionally coincide, supportively. We have noticed many such teams in large and small companies and in non-work situations. Their achievements are often, at best, unremarkable, satisfactory and within expectations. The team members may wear the same colours, but they rarely wear a grin.
Great teams know they are. They remain individually strong, and appreciate the success multiplier that being part of their team brings.
Don’t put up with bland teaming. There are wonderful wins available to ‘real teams’. Tangible wins in whatever metrics are critical for you, and non-tangible wins in terms of happiness, enjoyment, and raising the attraction of the team (to customers, colleagues, suppliers, and future recruits).
This is what it is all about, we are not on our own, ever. We are always part of a team, many teams. Some work well, some not. Make yours thrive.
