A couple of weeks ago I found myself back in overwhelm. I re-read my newsletter from March (Simplify your overwhelm) and the bonus tip I wrote following the ‘Pause’ series of articles (Pause extras 1: Clutter). Of course they helped, but there was more to do this time.
I recalled a phrase from a book “Possessions you cannot give away, end up possessing you”, and as I sat in my thinking chair my eyes stared at the cupboard full of books, some read, some not. Books from my past, books I was holding onto, just in case I need to refer to it, or perhaps even may read again. The shelf was sagging under their weight. In my mind I was experiencing the same.
So out they all came, into a box for the charity shop, keeping only 12.
The feeling was incredibly liberating and gave me an amazing energy boost for several days. The energy powered new momentum to make other, much delayed changes and to get sorted.
I challenge you to take a new look around the places you spend most time and let go, pass on or recycle things that no longer have anything to do with today’s version of you.
Wishing you an energy-filled step to simplicity.
Good luck and keep me informed.
Simon
