Inspiration from Alice

March 13th, 2010

In the height of the turbulent times we currently experiencing I’m noticing that many people, senior leaders and teams have lost the habit of setting direction. Not ‘get things done’ direction, but an exciting, meaningful place where success is easy, there’s more enjoyment and, dare I suggest, life is good!

The chaotic noise of urgency has drowned out the quieter desires.

People are finding themselves many months on, still in the same place, this will continue to be the case until time is spent on getting clarity on their desired state, or destination:

My observations have nudged me to refer to one of the many subtley profound quotes from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland again.

Alice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
The Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to get to
Alice: I don’t much care where.
The Cat: Then it doesn’t much matter which way you go.
Alice: …so long as I get somewhere.
The Cat: Oh, you’re sure to do that, if only you walk long enough.
