In conversation with Jason (the Mr Bootle who creates all this web stuff for me) it came up again that it takes some effort to get me to talk about me.
As a coach I have become adept at skipping quickly through my story and getting into the client’s world. This in itself has meant the early conversations I have with those that have coached me, have been somewhat superficial.
Mr Bootle simply asked why?
On reflection there has to be a balance; Too much about you and you could project your story onto the client, not picking up their differences, distinctions and subtleties.
Too little about you and the client cannot deeply connect to you, your stories, the relevance (or not) to their world.
The middle is laden with mistakes as you drift one way, haul back, drift the other and don’t notice till you notice. The tortuous middle ground is therefore often avoided. I know in my coaching I have entrenched in the ‘no story’ corner. This has served me well, as a coach. But this needs to be reviewed often.
The connections I enjoy with my coach, mentors and friends allow me to constantly find the middle path. Keeping it simple.
Good luck & keep me informed,
ST
