When I say ‘the rest of your life’, I could mean however many years you have left. Or, I could be referring to the most relaxing few hours of peace and tranquillity, the perfect temperature, surroundings, and nourishment possible. Whichever you thought when you read the title probably describes your current state of mind.
2010 has begun and resolutions abound, there is an air of expectant change, or at least gentle willingness to start a change.
For some of us our sense of determination has reached the point where we will follow through on our intentions, for others of us, well we’re just not there yet.
You always have a choice, including the ‘no action’ choice and rolling into this New Year might be just right for you. But as you are reading this and my intention through these words is to inspire you to think differently and even to take actions that you wouldn’t otherwise have taken, here’s my challenge.
Take a pen and paper (or keyboard) and for 10 minutes answer each of the following questions:
- What’s so important to me that I want it for the rest of my life? (e.g. aspects of your work, relationships, friendships, health, acting on whims)
- What have I had enough of in my lifetime that I am ready to move on from, for the rest of my life? (e.g. gossiping, becoming consumed by your own ideas, accepting less)
- You might even develop your answers into your own top tens for each, to which the late Thomas Leonard would refer to as a Personal Virtual Reality Check.
- Get support (a colleague, a coach, a mentor) and make it happen.
Contact me to schedule a kick-start call on your outputs from this work and I’ll help you create momentum.
Good luck, keep me informed and may 2010 be your kind of year. Happier than you’ve ever been, laughing harder, smiling wider, standing taller, walking lighter, living grander.
Simon
