Word-up

September 13th, 2009

I received quite a few comments following the last newsletter, ‘WORDS’. Some readers stated that they worked on their words, but caught themselves drifting back to old language fairly soon, they wanted some more permanent fixes!

This newsletter is linked to WORDS, inspired my Michael Neill and details some simple experiments to support your WORD-UP (nothing to do with Cameo in the 1980s), to upgrade your words. Choose one to try starting today, or all of them, if you’re up for it and ready to WORD-UP. They WILL have an impact on your brains word production.

  1. For the next 24 hours, do not complain to anyone. About anything. If you catch yourself complaining before the 24 hours are up, simply begin again. When I first took this on as a challenge it took me 9 days to complete, since then however I have almost eliminated my propensity to complain and now take responsibility for everything in which I am involved.
  2. For the next week, do not gossip or entertain gossip about anyone. From anyone. If someone persists in attempting to gossip with you, you may ask them to stop, explain this experiment, or simply walk away. If you catch yourself gossiping before the week is up, simply begin again.Talking about people has been scientifically proved to be the lowest grade of energy in a dialogue, and often leaves both talkers drained in some way, further evidence of the need to WORD-UP here.
  3. For the next month, do not criticize any member of your family, inner circle of friends or your team (sporting or commercial). You may of course make requests of them if there is something which you would like them to do differently. Be honest with yourself as to whether or not your request was a genuine request or a secret criticism. If you catch yourself criticizing a team member, close friend or family member before the end of the month, simply begin again.

Each of these experiments works right at the route of your thinking and word production and can support a permanent change in both.

Of the newsletters I send I know that 1 or more will resonate with you and surprise you with what is possible. Please, please, please (very James Brown) let me know if you have reportable results that may inspire others.

PS – In November I will be leading another 3 day workshop (partly over a weekend) for experienced coaches. The weekend is a rewarding experience full of sharing, exploration, challenging and new learning that kickstarts participants into the next phase of their coaching life. Please contact me to reserve your place.

Thank you and have an outstanding week.
